A directory of Masters and ships which sailed out of Goole, Yorkshire in the 19th and 20th century. ~ WHAT MAKES GOOLE UNIQUE? It is in the East Riding of Yorkshire, approximately 45 miles from the sea, and is the UK's most inland port! ~ Unfortunately, it is also unique in having a name which is only one letter short of a well-known search engine ... with the result that any internet search for Goole results in the response, "Did you mean Google?"!
If you have found this a problem, help is at hand! Goole Museum Volunteers have recently launched a totally Goole-focussed search engine, called "Goole isn't Google!".
Why not give it a try?! There are loads of Goole links on there - and not a "Did you mean Google?" in sight!! ~ Many thanks to Brian Masterman, who has kindly given permission for us to reproduce a large number of the images on this website. This is a work in progress! Please contact us if you have any further information which we may add to this website.
Across the seas where the great waves grow, there are no fields for the poppies to grow, but it’s a place where Seamen sleep, died for their country, for you and peace"
